چکیده

The incidence of radiodermatitis after percutaneous coronary interventions is rising with the increasing number and complexity of these procedures. This is a case report of a male patient with 3vessel coronary artery disease in whom chronic radiodermatitis developed following four difficult and prolonged coronary interventions. The skin eruption was characterized by a well-demarcated, atrophic, rectangular plaque presenting as mottled hyper-and hypopigmentation with telangiectasia. Generally, the skin lesions can appear several weeks to a decade after the procedure. The variable onset of these clinical features renders the association with previous angiographic procedures difficult. Even though the risk of radiation injury in most of the patients undergoing cardiac catheterization is low, the potential for radiodermatitis should not be ignored, especially in patients receiving interventional and complicated procedures. Chronic radiodermatitis following percutaneous coronary interventions: a report of two cases.

We describe two patients in whom chronic radiodermatitis with therapy-resistant ulceration of the right scapular region developed, following percutaneous coronary intervention with fluoroscopic imaging. Contrary to most reported cases in the literature, which involve numerous cardiac catheterization procedures, in both patients described here the total radiation dose was given during two succes...

Efficiency of a minicourse in radiation reducing techniques: a pilot initiative to encourage less irradiating cardiological interventional techniques (ELICIT).

T he reported mean dose–area product (DAP) received by patients from coronary angiography and percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) is high and typically varies too greatly in invasive cardiology—that is, within 16–106 Gy 6 cm and 34–109 Gy 6 cm, respectively. Skin erythema, chronic radiodermatitis, and musculocutaneous deep injury in conjunction with complex coronary interventions may resul...

Chronic Kidney Disease Progression and Cardiovascular Outcomes Following Cardiac Catheterization—A Population‐Controlled Study

BACKGROUND Studies of kidney disease associated with cardiac catheterization typically rely on billing records rather than laboratory data. We examined the associations between percutaneous coronary interventions, acute kidney injury, and chronic kidney disease progression using comprehensive Veterans Affairs clinical and laboratory databases. METHODS AND RESULTS Patients undergoing percutane...

The Potential Effect of Intravenous Calcitriol on the Ischemia-Reperfusion Injury and Inflammatory Biomarkers in Patients following Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI)

Objectives: This study aimed to investigate the efficacy of calcitriol on Ischemia-reperfusion Injury (IRI) and inflammatory biomarkers in patients with non-ST-segment elevation acute coronary syndromes (NSTEACS) undergoing elective Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI). Methods: A total of 72 patients with NSTEACS were randomly divided into two groups: (1) the calcitriol-treated grou...
